Dealing With Rejections

Oh no! Noes! Rejections! We all know what rejection feels like - it's like a feeling of disappointment, shock, or other mixed feelings that had struck the home of your heart.

Rejections can be a painful thing. We face rejections in the real world in which companies or schools deny your application. But we also face them on the internet world, especially deviantArt. There's always that one group that deny your picture every time you try to submit or that contest you were sure you were going to win, but didn't.

Now let's hear something important: It's okay to be rejected.

Oh no, you heard me right. Everyone is rejected in some point in their life, on deviantArt or in career, in school, everywhere! No one is perfect, we're humans for a reason. But how do you deal with rejections? What is the best way to respond to something that could be shocking to you?

First thing first, look over what the person had commented about. Re-read if you need to, many times. Once it hit you, don't let your emotions rage out. Don't type yet. Don't do anything at all. Take a deep breath. Listen to music. Do anything that will relax and calm your mind. Once you have calmed down, you can go back to that comment and consider the best proper way to respond to it.

And how to respond to it, you say? Don't type "Aww" or ":( (Sad)" or anything along those lines. In all honesty, you shouldn't show your feelings of disappointment in your comment, it might give a bad impression to the person who had declined you. Instead, say something along the line of "Thank you for your time" or "It's okay, thank you". When you thank others despite being rejected, it shows that you have a sense of maturity and understanding of how to deal with rejections.

And if you're the one who have to reject someone for reasons? Don't state it in a mean way - a simple "Sorry, but thank you!" would do. This also show that you have a sense of maturity and understanding of good manners.

Still can't accept that rejection? Close and delete that comment from your message or simply just nod along if it's not through writing. Then go and find something to keep your mind off on that rejection. Talk to a friend - perhaps they have an advice for you on what you can do to improve. A good advice from Elsa: Let it go. No need to remember that rejection!
